First thing, everything sounds very dim to me... Like you seriously need to turn the highs all the way up. The 'neuro' bass has a lot of resonating frequencies I would cut. The synth with piano riff is actually cool. I also would turn up the stereo more in the higher frequency range and make it more mono the basses (especially the reese bass in the mid of the song).
Don't know if you tried to use MIDI notes for your Yamaha keyboard or you played it and record it yourself, in which case I have to congratulate you. I myself haven't done any song using my E363 yet.

Thanks for big review!

Mixing is one of my problems when I compose a song. Thank you for mixing tips.
My keyboard has got an MIDI tracker. I have to do something manually, like instead of automation tracks I have to set the value through the time, but I think it's not hard to use.

Casually lurking on my NG feed I came across this banger. I'm totally digging this electro-house and dubstep mix for the morning routines.
Very nice get-to-the-point structure and interesting choice of leads and other synths, my favourite was that kind of c64 sound (2:37).
So, is this how it feels when you have the motivation to finish your works?... I should learn a lot from that, lol.

SpeedoRH responds:

Haha, so glad you still follow me and find my stuff every once in a while!

I am really glad you enjoyed the structure. I don't really mention this here on Newgrounds a whole lot, but to me the biggest issue has always been trying to arrange a song in an interesting way, so I am very happy to hear you liked that characteristic of my song.

To be honest, I have come to the realisation that finishing a track with motivation is a half-myth of sorts. Sadly, not every track you made will be finished before you get bored and want to stop making it. All you can do is speed up and push yourself really. My sole motivation to finish Joyride was that it was going to be my best track ever by a long shot. That doesn't happen often! Hopefully you understand my perspective here.

Again, thank you for the review! So glad to see you are still around here like an OG!

P.s. That c64 sound was a sorta colour bassy sound I made with some FM sample I found from one of my samples packs. Sometimes opening FL and just designing some sounds can really help with music making!

OG House isn't one of my favourite music genres from a moral point of view due to the sampling issue, but I can't deny you did a good mix, although is kinda quiet. As for the drums, sidechain curve fits nice but the kick seems to lose its transient (0:20) when the main beat starts (0:25). Can't tell if it's a mix problem or the drums are pre-made loops.

xanxoepico responds:

I respect your point of view, but I just love sample heavy songs like daft punk's work lol, anyways the mixing issues are more because I didn't do much to eq the main sample other than a small highpass filter around 80-100hz iirc, the drums aren't pre-made but many elements from the original song are still there as a result from the mix

I find interesting how emotional your dubstep is, although this one was pretty similar to the one you uploaded for the AIM contest (btw it was my fav!)
I've known very few people here who has made their dubstep something else aside from violent blender sounds lol; everything to me sounds very clear and fitting in the stereo field, specially the pads. The first drop wasn't my favourite, I don't like much riddim in general but the rest has been a hype. Good luck with the NGUAC!

veryfakeguest responds:

Thank you for the kind words and feedback! My friend had also noticed it shared some similarities with one of my previous works, I'll take note and try to do something different for future projects.lol

Fricking insane. It has everything I look for in an EDM track: hooking melody, loud but clean mix, the hardest drop growls and a time signature change. I have no complains. Not to disrespect the other contestants but this one might get the highest score amongst the EDM category.

NDXLOfficial responds:

Thank you so so much man <3 <3 <3

That lead sounds HUGE!!! I really had a hype I haven't felt in months when that score came!
I personally think the saturation got a bit out of hand and aside from the generic chord progression this is still a bop, perfect for a summer party.
Good luck with the NGADM!

Very funky and nice ambient! The percussion is really well worked and the transitions makes it insteresting to listen. I don't know how I will come out in the NGADM since we're in the same group D:

Semzaiy responds:

Thanks! Idk how I will come out in the NGADM because yours is amazing, I just listened to it and the melodies are so good you will probably win this from me D:

Nice groove, there still are tracks like this sounding on radio, so it possibly could be aired if it was extended. Clap and hats could be a bit lighter, but the atmosphere is pretty good for a 2000's club. Good one man

I'm not a very classy guy, but this should be in an adventure videogame.
The structure is very nice, as it goes on adding more things, goes from gloomy to hopeful, specially when strings starts blending in, one of my favourite parts. Also the placing of the instruments is really good, I don't know much about stereo field and those things tho.
After the climax there's some saturated voice-like sound at 1:30, can't tell if it was made on purpose but it's not very pleasant hearing that when it's supposed to be the calm part. Same thing with the very last violin note, a bit loud...
If you recorded some of the instruments live with mic, hence the possible saturation, then props to you man. I don't even have talent to play some piano scores live and record it into my DAW.

SomeGuyMusic responds:

Thank you! The 1:30 distortion was supposed to be on purpose but I guess I should've eased it down just a bit. Also these are all stock instruments of FL Mobile! I tried my best to humanize them. Thank you for the review!
